Just Checkin' In

For someone who says she loves to write, I sure do spend a lot of time avoiding my blog! I'm trying to do the things I know will help promote my Etsy shop, but there seem to be so many steps. I tend to get a little caught up in it all - 'cause it's fun - but then I end up neglecting so many of my other duties. I mean really, how can I consider myself a good mom if I'm letting the kids watch cartoons all day?

My hubby will never be convinced that being a stay-at-home parent is challenging if he comes home and all the dishes are still dirty, laundry is piled to the ceiling and we're having Kraft macaroni and cheese for dinner (again). I think he would not be impressed that I spent my day in the Etsy chatrooms! I've always had a challenge with balance in my life. I tend to get very obsessive about something, until I'm burned out, then I move onto the next obsession.

Tonight, I'm supposed to make invitations to my son's birthday party. I only have 5 to make, so it should be pretty easy. I can't believe he's going to be 5-years-old. Where did that time go? If this 5 went by quickly I can't even imagine how fast the next 5 will fly by.

I guess that's all I'm going to be able to talk about tonight.

Name Change

I changed the name of my blog because not everything has to be named after my etsy shop (Sleepless Imagination). My hubby is taking our little darlin's to Grandma's tomorrow, so I'm gong to have some quiet time to do some crafting. I'm hoping that I don't spend too much time thinking I have to do other things like wash dishes, do laundry, clean the house etc.

The last time I had a weekend alone, I spent a good deal of my time cleaning and rearranging my son's room (he's 4). When he got home he said "I don't like it". I won't make the same mistake this time around. I'm not going to waste my precious alone time cleaning!

Trying To Get it All Together

These are some things I made for my daughter's room. The big flower is made from white foam board and painted with acrylics. The butterfly is acrylic and puffy paint and the sun and flower picture is acrylic on canvas. These were so much fun to make and for the most part, I'm happy with the results.

I finally got 3 items posted on my Etsy shop (with 4 photos each!), but I need some more stuff. You would think I would be thrilled with the idea of "having to" create some things to add to my shop. But I'm starting to feel overwhelmed. Christmas is coming and I'm getting that tight feeling in my chest like I know I should be doing something, but there is too much to do, so I think I'll just sit on the couch and watch t.v. I guess that would be shut down mode. The thing is, I can ignore responsibility all I want, but that doesn't make it go away, does it?

I'm going to try to do a lot of home made gifts this year. I probably should've started a couple of months ago (at least). I know it's going to be ok, I just need to do some steady, consistent work.

Recently, I was able to make some things for my daughter's room that I really like. I think that is probably when my new energy for crafting started. I did a couple of paintings for her room and started meeting regularly (again) with my friend Jean, to do crafty things. Every time I do something, it just fuels the fire and gives me more desire to paint, write, bend wire, build things, whatever.

It's hard to do as much as I want with limited time and space. But you know what? I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to spend as much time as I do, thinking about art and crafting. I love to see what other people are doing, I like thinking of new ideas and I think beauty and creativity are such gifts from God.

Thanks for stopping by!

First Post

This is the first entry for my new blog. I'm a little unfamiliar with this blog stuff, even though I do have a blog somewhere else. I opened that one so that I could be accountable for doing some writing. I mostly wrote about the adventures of being a mom. Unfortunately, my interest in it fizzled out pretty early (in the blog, not in being a mom).

The reason for this blog is that I have opened an Etsy shop to sell my handmade stuff. Today is the first day I have anything listed (and I only have one thing listed). I'm looking forward to being part of the Etsy community and for having an excuse to make things (other than I just love doing it). My Etsy username is Sleepless Imagination and you can find my shop here: sleeplessimagination.etsy.com.

There are so many amazing and creative people on Etsy, it's a bit intimidating. I know I'm not a "real artist", but I love to create and I believe it's one of the things I'm meant to do. I think there are few things I'm more passionate about than arts and crafts and if you want to hear me babble on endlessly about a topic, just ask me about something artistic or tell me you're an artist!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will visit often!
